What are some of your favorite songs of all time?

You know those songs that you always come back to. Those songs that never expire in popularity from your heart. In my case, one of those songs is Erykah Badu’s Bag Lady. I still remember hearing this song for the first time back in high school.

Erykah Badu

Bag Lady came out my first year in high school- year 2000. The same year I decided to “come out” of the closet. I decided being out in high school was a way to start fresh from the closeted life I had in middle school. Fortunately, I was given a lot of support during my coming out process even from gang member friends I had who told me if I ever needed anything (for example help in defending myself) to just to let them know.

Bag Lady helped me in moving on from the relationship I had with myself in middle school. It advised me that the only thing I should hold on to is me, is me, is me. Bag lady also tells me to pack light or else I might miss my bus. And most important is the message: love can make it better, betcha love can make it better…

I listen to this song every once in a while. The music is relaxing and its always good to remind myself to love myself. Also, if something is bothering me its important to just let it go, let it go… instead of carrying all that baggage inside.

What about you? What are some of your favorite songs? I want to know.

Hello everyone. I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I have lived in Los Angeles for the majority of my life minus the four years I was in Santa Barbara going to school. I work at an outpatient crystal meth program for gay men. During my free time I love exploring LA: eating at different restaurants, visiting museums, going to the theater, attending cultural events among many other things I'll be sharing with you. At home I am a big fan of reading and playing video games.
