[UPDATE TO A PREVIOUS STORY] The jubilation had started to kick in. Reports began flying from major news outlets like ABC to inde-outlets like, well, Qulture that Chick-fil-A  (CFA) had reversed course and took a stand in support of gay rights. Chalk this up as another victory for the LGBTQ equality movement. Time to dine on some delicious and far-from-nutritious chicken sandwiches from our former foe now friend Chick-fil-A. Common sense had finally kicked in.

But then the bomb dropped courtesy of Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy…

“There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that Chick-fil-A changed our practices and priorities in order to obtain permission for a new restaurant in Chicago And while our sincere intent has been to remain out of this political and social debate, events from Chicago this week have once again resulted in questions around our giving. A part of our corporate commitment is to be responsible stewards of all that God has entrusted to us. Because of this commitment, Chick-fil-A’s giving heritage is focused on programs that educate youth, strengthen families and enrich marriages, and support communities. We will continue to focus our giving in those areas. Our intent is not to support political or social agendas.”

And just like that the honeymoon with the fast food chain was officially finito. The controversy began when, during an interview on a Christian radio show, Cathy made a statement confirming his opposition to same-sex marriage. Then it was reported that CFA had, in fact, donated millions  of dollars to anti-gay politicians and organizations. What followed was mass protests (both pro and con) of epic proportions. The company appeared to have made concessions about two weeks ago when Chicago city Alderman Joe Moreno claimed CFA had agreed to stop financing anti-LGBT organizations (ala NOM, and Family Research Council) and include sexual orientation protections in the company’s official anti-discrimination employee policy. According to Cathy, these reports were in complete contrast to the facts.

For now, do not expect the twists and turns that define Chick-fil-A’s relationship with the LGBT community to come to an end any time soon. The American consumer will still have to dissect the situation and decide whether they want to continue to support a company with a controversial civil rights stance, or show their disdain by not spending their hard earned dollars with the fast food chain. We’ll have to wait and see. To be continued…

It’s very upsetting to see there’s still people out there with such a backwards mentality.

Its sad that some the self-proclaimed followers of Christ can be so judgmental to the gay community. 🙁
