Great News from the coffee world! Starbucks has decided to take a stand in solidarity for Washington Marriage Equality! It’s exciting that a world famous coffee house would make a public stand with us queers! They have been very supportive in the past, but their “coming out” publicly is to be applauded.
“Starbucks is proud to join other leading Northwest employers in support of Washington State legislation recognizing marriage equality for same-sex couples. Starbucks strives to create a company culture that puts our partners first, and our company has a lengthy history of leading and supporting policies that promote equality and inclusion.
This important legislation is aligned with Starbucks business practices and upholds our belief in the equal treatment of partners. It is core to who we are and what we value as a company. We are proud of our Pride Alliance Partner Network group, which is one of the largest Employer Resource Groups for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) employees in the U.S., helping to raise awareness about issues in the communities where we live and work.”
I have been a Starbucks customer for a long time. I own all sorts of coffee mugs, coffee tumblers in all kinds of colors and shapes! I even have a gold card with my name on it, a bit much -I know.. In any case it’s wonderful to see that my hard earned money and my loyalty to Starbucks has a connection to a cause that is dear to my heart.
My hope is that other prestiges companies will follow their example and start to back us up here in California. More importantly that they will invest financially into the LGBTQ movement. Fighting the cause for Marriage Equality is expensive, but we welcome any type of support. Everyone has a role to play in Marriage equality. Whether that support is marching with us, phone banking to draw support at the polls, volunteering time, boycotting an establishment that is anti-queer, or giving financially. All of this is needed and none of it should be viewed as less or more, it’s all support and that is all that really matters. ~ We Are Qulture
