Synopsis (courtesy of Sony Pictures):

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.

Review:

Normally, time-travel flicks make my head hurt but this one had me glued! It is a pure, precise, poetic, impactful sci-fi thriller that left me gagging! Joseph Gordon-Levitt is almost unrecognizable as a very credible, younger version of the Bruce Willis character who comes from the future to escape retribution and right reprehensible wrongs. Both are so irredeemable that it’s dizzying trying to root for either one and the kid they’re after will break your heart with his UH-mazing performances as the possible key to the maddening puzzle. Willis is masterful and clearly, has still got it, as he assaults and fights his way deeper and deeper into murkier ethical terrain. The twists and turns will challenge you and the special effects are staggering. I loved it as much, if not more, than last year’s Chronicle, which I also thought had a cool, original, classic, indie-feel. Looper is a thrilling, fun, definite go-see flick!

My grade: A
